As HR professionals, we are obligated to be skilled in problem resolution techniques.

The most effective technique is collaboration. “The collaborative style views conflicts as problems to be solved and finding creative solutions that satisfy all the parties’ concerns.”

According to the Thomas-Killman Conflict Management Instrument, Compromise is 7% effective in resolving conflict while Collaboration is 99% effective.

So when President Obama calls for Republicans to compromise first, he is enabling the 7% effective solution. The Obama solution is to continue the the Bush now Obama error tax cuts for all but a select 2%, Obama has chosen the dual path of class warfare & legal economic discrimination.

But there is a third path available. As a fiscally conservative independent, I propose the following revenue solutions.

1. Set the capital gains/dividend income tax rate to the same rate as earned income. Essentially, this is similar to the Buffet tax plan, with this twist – it is demographic class neutral.

2. Eliminate the 2% payroll tax cut. All this does is spend our future today. This is further eroding the value of the Social Security Trust Fund.

3. Eliminate the second home mortgage interest deduction. Most Americans are not eligible for this deduction to begin with.

4. Set up a plan to phase back in the Bush now Obama error tax cuts. Benchmark this phase in to measured economic recovery.

This proposal is not only demographic neutral but sets the stage for a more collaborative dialogue about fair & balanced entitlementality reform. When this happens, We The People will be collaborating towards 99% effectiveness v settling for a dismal 7% dysfunctionality

What say ye?
